Understanding diabetes helps patients cope

For Sharon Andrews, managing her diabetes has been a learning process.
“There’s a lot that’s involved,” Andrews said, “not only your carbs, but you have to be cognizant of the calorie count, the fat that you intake. There’s just so much that you have to be aware of.”
Andrews says she’s fortunate. After being diagnosed as prediabetic about two years ago, she takes one pill a day and checks her blood glucose (sugar) levels twice a day.
